The moment was electric. Richard confidently stepped out onto the set of Ch4’s ‘The Word’ and sang passionately to a potential gay lover. A short film of Richard in and around the Sheffield area followed, then back to the studio. Richard kept a cool head as his love interest was swept off his feet by an older, probably more physically experienced gay man, but the look of rejection in his eyes had a nation in tears.
